Events

On the 24th April 2023, the EFL Department of SRMIST Vadapalani conducted a workshop on ‘Lernen Mit Spaß’ for the students of B.Tech first year. The event was conducted in Mechanical Drawing room in the presence of Dean Dr C.V. Jayakumar; Vice Principal of Academics and Placement Dr Gomathi and Head of Departments of Mechanical, MBA and Chemistry departments, respectively.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sarah Helen Sathya. This workshop was hosted by Mrs. Poornasoundari Venkatesan, a corporate German trainer, who later handled topics such as the basic grammar of the German language along with the geography of the country. All through the session, students were actively engaged through various fun activities as well as game-based learning. Following that, Dean Dr. C.V. Jayakumar felicitated the resource person, Mrs. Poornasoundari, and the event ended with a vote of thanks from Mrs. Nalini. K.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vadapalani conducted SRM Vadapalani Model United Nations (SRMVMUN 2022) on 16th, 17th and 18th September 2022. The conference was organized for the students to instill in them an understanding of how existing international bodies work and how their contribution towards solving issues can create a huge impact on our planet today. The chief guest for the inaugural ceremony was Mr. J. Sam Daniel Stalin, Bureau Chief- NDTV. And, the chief guest for the valedictory function was Mrs. Bhanurekha Condur, Associate Vice President, Sutherland Global Services.

This conference consist of 6 committees namely Disarmament and International Security Council (DISEC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC), All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM) along with International Press and Photo Journalism The Overall Trophy with the maximum delegates was won by VIT, Vellore. With more than 200 delegates from 18 colleges , made the conference a grand and successful event.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vadapalani conducted the first ever SRM Intra Vadapalani Model United Nations (SRM VMUN) on 1st April 2022 and 2nd April 2022. The conference was organized for the students to instill in them an understanding of how existing United Nation work and how their contribution towards solving issues can create a huge impact on our planet today. The chief guest for the inaugural ceremony was Lt. Col. Agnes Shanthi. The inauguration started auspiciously with some inspiring words from the respective dignitaries on the dais, Dr. C.V Jayakumar, Dean – CET, Dr. C. Gomathy, VP Academics and Ms. Poomathi, HOD EFL.

Our honorable chief guest, Lt.Col. Agnes Shanthi was welcomed heartily with a beautiful flower bouquet, a fruit basket, SRM VMUN Memento and a special gift. Ms. Sarah Helan Sathya A, the faculty coordinator of SRMVMUN’22 briefed the proceedings of MUN. The crowd felt energized interacting with our honorable Chief guest, for her insightful speech that inspired them to think upon peace. The conference had a total participation of 60 delegates of various committees being AIPPM (All India Political Parties Meet), DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee) and UNHRC (United Nation Human Rights Committee). The committees had a total of 3 external executive boards namely Mr. Karthik Rajesh, Mr. Ravi Vatsan and Mr. Aravind Krishnan who had participated and won in several MUNs which justified them as chairperson and decisions taken for each committee. We had 4 internal executive boards as well who has experience and knowledge in the domain.

AIPPM focused on addressing about freedom of speech and expression in India and right to privacy in India with special emphasis on data protection framework. UNHRC aimed on deliberating on global rights with special emphasis on LGBTQ community and elimination of Xenophobia. DISEC focused on discussing about the ways to prevent the acquisition of nuclear material/weapons by the non-state actors.

All the delegates were given opportunities to address and express their view point. Discussions and deliberations were made and at the end of the second day. Resolution was passed on the clause discussed. The valedictory ceremony was held on the 2nd April and the Best Delegate was won by the delegate of Saudi Arabia. There were 6 winners in all the committee and a number of verbal mentions. Over all SRM VMUN was a grand success.

The Department of EFL organized the maiden edition of SRMVMUN a three days National conference on 11- 13 August, 2017 at SRM IST City Campus, Vadapalani. The conference witnessed a participation of 125 Delegates from other universities, across India. The conference was inaugurated by Mr. Sunil Baffna, Division Director of District of Tamil Nadu and Srilanka, Toastmasters International, and the ceremony was presided by Dr. S. Karthikeyan, HOD of Mechanical Department, Mr. Yash Khairnar of CSE, fourth year, served as the Secretary General for the conference. The conference was marked by extensive factual debates and deliberations in a spectacular show of diplomacy, leadership skills, and speaking ability. The committees being simulated were the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the United Nations General Assembly Disarmament and International Security Council (UNGADISEC), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The delegates have energetically participated and gave the thoughtful suggestions and solutions for the existing global problems. During the valedictory the delegates of SRM KTR, won the Best Delegation award. SRMVMUN was supported and gained recognition with an immense support of Dean Dr. K. Duraivelu (E&T). The conference was successful and the all those involved gained an amazing experience, due to the efforts of the 30+ hard working people who put in their mind and soul into this event, as team members of the organizing committee.
