About Oasis Literary Club
The English Literary Club at SRMIST Vadapalani is set to officially launch on September 27th, 2022. Our aim is to cultivate a love for language and bolster critical thinking and creativity among students through a variety of literary pursuits. The inauguration will feature the unveiling of our club’s logo via video, followed by three engaging literary activities. These include monologue performances of renowned characters like Hamlet, Macbeth, and Lady Macbeth, a captivating tableau presentation of the Mahabharata, and an enthralling one-act skit titled “Words, Words, Words” penned by David Ives. Join us for an inspiring celebration of literature and expression.

About Aura – The Theatre Club
Aura, The Theatre Club, endeavors to ignite the imagination of students, inspiring them to dream, explore, think, and connect through the magic of theatrical performances both onstage and behind the scenes. Our mission is to breathe life into performances that not only entertain but also provoke thought and introspection. We encourage students to dream about their identities and future possibilities, to explore diverse narratives and viewpoints, to engage in critical thinking, and to forge connections with others and with new ideas. Through our programs, we aim to instill in students a sense of curiosity and a willingness to question and navigate the complexities of the world, fostering their growth into healthier, more enlightened, and compassionate individuals. Report of the Street Play-I held on 27-08-2024
On 27th August, 2024, SRMIST’s Ekkatuthangal Campus in Chennai hosted a thought-provoking street skit, “The Life of a Butterfly,” presented by the Aura Theatre Club. The 15-minute performance, held from 11:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., featured 15 students in roles, with a total of 120 participants from Aura Theatre Club. The event aimed to raise awareness about global warming and its devastating impact.
The skit was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Ms. Harini Ravi, Director of Institutional Development and Innovation, SRM Group; Dr. S. Ramachandran, Director of Academics; and Dr. K.R. Ananthapadmanaban, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRMIST, Vadapalani Campus. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the importance of addressing global warming.
Through the life cycle of a butterfly, the play poignantly depicted the devastating impact of climate change. The audience was taken on a journey, highlighting how rising temperatures disrupt natural habitats, changing rainfall patterns affect food sources, and extreme weather events threaten survival.
The street skit effectively conveyed the urgent need for environmental consciousness, leaving a lasting impression on the viewers. The students’ creative expression and enthusiasm made the event a resounding success, inspiring others to take action against global warming. The Aura Theatre Club’s initiative demonstrated the power of art in sparking meaningful conversations and driving positive change.

Report of the Street Play-II held on 12-09-2024
On 12th September, 2024, SRMIST’s Vadapalani Campus in Chennai hosted a thought-provoking street skit, “Song of the Earth,” presented by the Aura Theatre Club. The 25-minute performance, held from 01:15 p.m. to 01:40 p.m. featured 17 students in roles, around 1200 members of students and staff members of FSH, FET and FOM, Vadapalani Campus have witnessed the play. The event aimed to raise awareness about global warming and its devastating impact.
The skit was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. C. V. Jayakumar, Dean of Engineering, Prof. V. Sasirekha, Faculty of Management and Dr. K.R. Ananthapadmanaban, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRMIST, Vadapalani Campus. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the importance of raising awareness of environmental issues in the context of International Ozone Day, observed on September 16.
The play employed a combination of dialogues, music, and visual elements to convey a powerful message about the need for global action to protect the ozone layer. Song of the Earth” effectively shed light on the pressing need to safeguard the Earth’s atmosphere, particularly the ozone layer, from the harmful effects of pollution and chemical substances. The play also connected cultural respect for nature with the urgent contemporary challenge of environmental degradation. By focusing on the environmental and health risks caused by ozone depletion, the performers conveyed the message of environmental responsibility, emphasizing how a unified approach can contribute to the planet’s sustainability.
Outcome of the Street Play
The play successfully instilled a sense of awareness among the audience regarding the importance of protecting the ozone layer. Through its artistic expression, it encouraged participation in the global movement to preserve not only the environment but also cultural values. Attendees were inspired to join in efforts to reduce pollution and combat the adverse effects of ozone layer depletion. In conclusion, the event at Vadapalani Campus was both informative and inspiring, with the street play leaving a lasting impression on the importance of environmental preservation for future generations.

On 100h October, 2024, the Aura The Theatre Club has hosted a thought-provoking street skit, “The Divine Intervention” in SRMIST, First Floor, Atrium, Vadapalani Campus in Chennai. The 25-minute performance, held from 12:15 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. featured 16 students in roles. The skit was graced by Dr. K.R. Ananthapadmanaban, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRMIST, Vadapalani Campus, and around 1000 members of students and staff of FSH, FET and FOM, Vadapalani Campus have witnessed the play.

This production uniquely blends traditional storytelling with contemporary themes, creating a powerful narrative that resonates with modern audience. The play revolves around the goddess’s fierce battle against darkness and evil, serving as an symbol for the eternal struggle between good and evil forces in life. Key elements of the play include the dynamic performance, the Navarathri Colours and Symbolism. The actors bring a palpable intensity to their roles, especially in portraying the battle scenes. The portrayal of Mahishaasur Mardhini emphasizes her strength, courage, and divine power. The play highlights the significance of each Navaratri color, each representing different aspects of femininity, strength, and spirituality. These colors not only enhance the visual appeal but also reinforce the thematic depth of the play.
