Membership at the library of SRMIST Vadapalani City campus is open to all staff and students of the institution. This inclusive policy ensures that every member of the university community has access to the wealth of resources and services offered by the library.

Circulation Policy

All students and faculty with valid library cards are eligible to borrow materials from the library. This circulation policy is subject to periodic review and revision by library management. Library Timings

The library at SRMIST Vadapalani City campus operates during the following hours:

Week Days – 7.30 a.m to 5.00 p.m

Saturday – 9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m

Sunday – 9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m

These timings ensure that students, faculty and staff have ample opportunity to utilize the library’s resources and services throughout the week

Issue

Books are issued within the issue limit of the membership category Members’ ID card should be presented at the time of issue. Members should get the documents duly issued at the circulation counter Members are responsible for all the books issued on their cards Journals, Reference Books and Question papers will not be issued for circulation. These are for reference only.

Note

Additional two books shall be issued to those students who secure a CGPA of 8.5. The HODs can recommend the student list to the library through the director. All final year student members should get a “No Dues Certificate” (NoC) from the librarian. The course completion, Degree Certificate will be given only upon the production of the NoC. Similarly, the staff members who intend to leave the university should settle all the dues, including the ID cards, and obtain a “No Dues Certificate” (NoC) from the librarian.

Return

Books should be returned within the due date mentioned on the Due Date Slip.

Renewal

Books can be renewed twice for 15 days if there is no reservation against the particular books. Books have to be presented physically at the circulation counter for their renewal.

Reservation

  • Books can be reserved only when they are on loan.
  • Reservation for the available resources will not be accepted.

Overdue Charges

A borrowed book should be returned on or before the due date marked on the due date slip, failing which a penalty of

  • 1 – 15 days Rs.1/- per day
  • 16 – 30 days Rs.2/-per day (from day one onwards)
  • 30 days & above Rs.5/- per day (from day one onwards) will be collected as overdue charge per book .

Loss of Books

The members should report to the library immediately if they lose a particular book, and it should be replaced with a new one, along with a levy for any overdue charges, if any. In case the member is unable to replace the books that are lost, he or she will be levied a penalty of three times the cost of the book plus the overdue charges.

Loss of ID Card

The members should report to the library immediately, if he or she loses the ID card. The duplicate ID card will be issued by the ID Card Dept. on payment of Rs. 1000/- by demand draft (DD) in favour of, “SRMIST”.

Library has around 22022 volumes of books consisting of 5505 titles which include Reference Books, Handbooks, Dictionaries and Encyclopedias.

CDs

Library has around 877 subject CDs covering Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Management and Science and Humanities.

Journals

The Library has 107 national journals / magazines covering the following branches :-
