About Robotics Club
The Robotics club of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vadapalani has been
conducting various activities related to the field of Robotics like WORKSHOPS, TECHNICAL COMPETITIONS and
OUTREACH activities. The club aims to train our young minds in the latest field of Robotics and encourages
students from all branches of Engineering. At present the club has more than 850 student members from SRM
Vadapalani.
During the past few years, many workshops have been conducted. The first workshop
was held during the inception of the club in March 2011. Every year, at least two workshops are conducted. The
previously conducted workshops were on advanced robot designs with Arduino and PIC microcontrollers. Apart
from these workshops, gesture-controlled, mind-controlled, underwater robots, sixth-sense (vision-controlled)
robots, quadcopters, and biped (walking) robots were conducted and students gained hands-on experience in
designing and implementing these advanced robots. Internationally recognised certificates were given to the
students, along with bots. The best team among these is selected and sent to the National Robotics Competition
(NRC) conducted at IIT Bombay.
Another major activity of this club is the national-level Techfest XION. This is an
annual event conducted every year during the month of March. This event attracts students from all over India
and organises various robotic competitions like Robo Soccer, Pick and Place robots, line-follower robots,
obstacle-avoiding robots, RC racing robots, technical paper presentations and other fun events. These
techfests are addressed by eminent scientists from reputed organisations like DRDO, CVDRE, NIOT, Nokia, etc.
The robotics club also encourages knowledge sharing with the community and organises various outreach
activities that impart technical skills related to robots to school students.
