About Department

As a vital component of SRMIST Vadapalani’s ever-expanding Faculty of Science and Humanities, the Department of English takes immense pride in hosting a team of competent and highly qualified faculty members. Our esteemed department, established in 2015, is dedicated to offering a comprehensive course in general English to first-year graduates from various disciplines, including commerce, business administration, computer science, and computer applications.

Our General English course is meticulously designed to enrich communication skills through engaging grammar and vocabulary sessions, as well as fostering an appreciation for literature. About Oasis Literary Club

The English Literary Club at SRMIST Vadapalani is set to officially launch on September 27th, 2022. Our aim is to cultivate a love for language and bolster critical thinking and creativity among students through a variety of literary pursuits. The inauguration will feature the unveiling of our club’s logo via video, followed by three engaging literary activities. These include monologue performances of renowned characters like Hamlet, Macbeth, and Lady Macbeth, a captivating tableau presentation of the Mahabharata, and an enthralling one-act skit titled “Words, Words, Words” penned by David Ives. Join us for an inspiring celebration of literature and expression.

About Aura – The Theatre Club

Aura, The Theatre Club, endeavors to ignite the imagination of students, inspiring them to dream, explore, think, and connect through the magic of theatrical performances both onstage and behind the scenes. Our mission is to breathe life into performances that not only entertain but also provoke thought and introspection. We encourage students to dream about their identities and future possibilities, to explore diverse narratives and viewpoints, to engage in critical thinking, and to forge connections with others and with new ideas. Through our programs, we aim to instill in students a sense of curiosity and a willingness to question and navigate the complexities of the world, fostering their growth into healthier, more enlightened, and compassionate individuals. Street Play Reports

Report of the Street Play-I held on 27-08-2024

On 27th August, 2024, SRMIST’s Ekkatuthangal Campus in Chennai hosted a thought-provoking street skit, “The Life of a Butterfly,” presented by the Aura Theatre Club. The 15-minute performance, held from 11:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., featured 15 students in roles, with a total of 120 participants from Aura Theatre Club.

The event aimed to raise awareness about global warming and its devastating impact. Through the life cycle of a butterfly, the play depicted climate change and environmental challenges.

On 12th September, 2024, SRMIST’s Vadapalani Campus hosted a street skit, “Song of the Earth,” presented by the Aura Theatre Club.

The play highlighted ozone layer protection and environmental responsibility through engaging performances.
